Al Khalaf Village

Aseer Region boasts heritage treasures with deep historical roots. These villages share the enduring and authentic story of Aseer across generations, reflecting its rich cultural identity and heritage. In coordination with the Urban Landscape, studies are currently underway to develop all heritage villages across the region.

Al Khalaf Village

The village of Al Khalaf in Aseer is spread across an area of 10 km, and lies 120 km away from the city of Abha. . It is home to the famous Kharaq Umm Khurma, Al-Matar archaeological mosque, Al-Qatfa mosque, and circular reservoirs carved in the rock that contains the well of Barha, or Bani Hilal. These are located in the village of Al Dhaher and are hand-carved. It is 20 meters deep and has water available throughout the year.

Tourist and Archaeological Landmarks:

  • Palaces and Towers: The village consists of several neighborhoods containing towering palaces and tall towers.
  • Archaeological and Water Features: The village contains circular reservoirs carved into the rock, in addition to an archaeological well known as "Bani Hilal Well" or "Barha Well", which is 20 meters deep and has a never-ending water supply.
  • Religious Landmarks: The village contains the archaeological "Al Matar" mosque and the "Al-Qatfa" mosque.
